I love rugs. Since the first glimmer of a desire to weave, I've wanted to weave rugs. Weaving rugs is so simple and so complicated. I am loving the journey, constantly honing my skills, learning new techniques, creating beauty as I see it.
Inspired by the "back to the land" movement of the 1970's, I love doing everything from scratch. My rugs start with wool from my friend's sheep farm, which then proceeds to our local mill for turning into roving. It returns home to me for spinning, dying and weaving. And not necessarily in that order! I enjoy experimenting with many different techniques; I like to constantly try something new and unusual. Here are some pictures of my process in a nutshell. Spinning
The magic of turning wool into yarn is ever captivating! My spinning wheel has a bulky flier for creating a nice rug yarn.

Dyeing
Playing with color may be the most exciting part of the process for me. My preferred commercial dyes are colorfast and eco-friendly, as almost all of the dye is absorbed by the fiber with very little waste.

Weaving
My Swedish countermarche loom makes the weaving a dream. It's easy to treadle and easy to beat, creating a superior rug.
